Experienced Consultant Psychiatrist

I was first appointed as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in 1999, working in Southampton, and have worked as a Consultant in Hampshire and Dorset since. I undertook much of my training in London. I bring this wealth of experience and dedication as a Consultant, accrued over 25 yrs. to my clinical practice.

I work with individuals and their families, as required; delivering personalised psychiatric care. In addition I continue working with the General Medical Council (GMC), providing services for Doctors as patients; and have collaborated with various organisations including the professional Football and Cricket bodies; Hampshire Police; Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service; the Ambulance Service; IBM; the Port of Southampton; the Civil Aviation Authority; and  previously worked with the Ministry of Defence MoD, The Royal Navy in particular. I also work with the NATS (National Air Traffic Services).

Background

I qualified as a Doctor in 1991, with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, now the Imperial College School of Medicine, London.

I worked as a junior doctor in London in Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine; General and Vascular Surgery; Casualty (A&E) and Neurosurgery.

I then trained in Psychiatry at The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital in London and obtained a Masters in Psychiatry (MSc. Psych.), researching into the treatment of Depressive Disorder from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London; now IoPPN (the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience). I also did some of my higher training in Hampshire and Dorset.

I was subsequently elected as Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych.), by examination in 1996; and elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych.) in 2018.

I became a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS in Southampton in 1999, and I’ve also worked in private practice, latterly.

I work with people to ensure they receive the care they need within the following fee structure.
The fees are the same for in-person, remote consultation using Zoom, or telephone consultation. In general, telephone consultations are more brief. The same fees would also be charged to an Insurer if required.

Initial Outpatient Consultation: £400

It is usually approximately 1 1/2 hrs. and includes a report to the individual, and GP or referrer as required.

Follow-up Consultation: £280

Up to 1 hour appointment.
Includes relevant prescriptions and correspondence to the individual, GP or referrer as required. This can also be charged on a pro rata basis if needed.

ADHD Screening Assessment Interview: £750

I use the DIVA 5 (Diagnostic interview for ADHD in Adults) as recommended by the World Health Organisation.

I provide an initial report for the individual, and their GP as required. Thereafter, a period of time stabilising treatment is required particularly if Stimulant medication has been prescribed. During this time prescriptions are charged at £45 each for 1 month supply. This is the maximum duration stimulants can be prescribed for.

Other Fees & Services:

Correspondence, Email Support and telephone Consultations: £280ph (pro rata)

Prescription Cost and Continued Medical Responsibility for prescribing outside appointments: £45

I also undertake Medico-legal Reports, which are undertaken within British Medical Association guidelines. I do not undertake Forensic cases nor Childcare cases. Please contact my Office Assistant for a quote.

Get in touch to book an Appointment

Please complete the contact form opposite. It’s very useful to have an email address; as this is the most effective means of communicating appointments and sending documentation to you.

Often at an initial appointment, we discuss a diagnosis and a treatment plan. We also discuss the most suitable form of follow-up; if appropriate.

Occasionally, if I am unable to be of further assistance to you, I arrange correspondence to be completed and either refer on to medical or Psychology Colleague or work together to find appropriate clinical resources.

I am unable to provide an Emergency Psychiatric, service as a Consultant Psychiatrist; but would refer on to Crisis teams in the NHS or discuss the benefits of psychiatric admission in the Independent (Private) sector. Such admissions are very costly, without the support of medical insurance.
